Belgian native Mathias Willemijns won the European big pumpkin contest with an Atlantic Giant pumpkin weighing in at 2,623 pounds.For master pumpkin grower Beni Meier, 2015 was a very good year, growing three world champion pumpkins ranging in size from 2,096, 2102, and 2,323.7 pounds. However, out of nowhere, Belgian native Mathias Willemijns appeared to win the European big pumpkin contest on Oct. 9 with an Atlantic Giant pumpkin weighing in at 2,623 pounds, setting a world record. The American championship held on the same day in Half Moon Bay, California, yielded a pumpkin weighing 1,910 pounds. For now, the Europeans can lay claim to the world champion pumpkin.
