Those Present: Tom Anderson, Dawne Howard, Claude Eans, Dave Barrow, Dave Hunter, Keith Schoonover, Lori Schoonover, Delores Winterstream, Tim Gibbs, Mike Kay

1. Call to order: Keith called the meeting to order.

2. Delores and Tim decided to attend the meeting after meeting some member’s at the Thurmont’s Green Fest. Both Delores and Tim are from Frederick and are interested in the Board.

3. Treasurer’s Report: Claude relayed the following. We received $.22 interest for the month. We also received $80 in our donation jars at the Thurmont and Frederick Green Fests.

4. Logging site exams: No plans were submitted prior to the meeting. We plan to meet with County logging permit officials on June 6 from 10:00 – 12:00 pm. The meeting location will be at the County Building at 30 North Market Street, Frederick, MD 21701. We will be meeting in Room 312.

5. Big Tree Measuring: Claude and Bethany measured 4 Big Trees last month. There was a large basswood cultivar that they believe is a Silver weeping linden. This would be a county champion. They also measured a large sycamore in Detour that measured out to 334 points and will be listed. They also measured a county champion Ailanthus tree as well as a champion basswood. Claude mentioned that they have identified a large silver maple that will be measured once the owner submits the necessary paperwork. Dawne distributed a pamphlet that members of the Montgomery County Forestry Board published that overviewed the county’s big trees, NRCC camp, and had other information about the Board. We discussed the possibility of the Board publish a similar booklet. The general consensus was that it would be useful but we should consider publishing a smaller supply because the information is transitory and many people do not do paper anymore. Perhaps a smaller quantity (100?) that we can display on Greenfest tables, provide to officials etc.?

6. Green Fest: Dave mentioned that the tables were well staffed. We distributed 2/3 of the seedlings that we had at Thurmont and 100% at Hood. Dave accumulated 60 more email addresses now there are 196 on our list. Dave was also able to distribute 250 used tree shelters. We received $80 in donations. Dave suggested that we consider participating in the Middletown Green Fest in 2020.

7. Sustainability Commission: Tom mentioned that he is set to retire from the Commission in June since his 6 year term is up. Tom indicated that he will be attending a meeting on Wednesday that will overview the Stream ReLeaf program. Tom will issue his last report at the June meeting.

8. Nature Notes: Lori mentioned that she sent 5 new Nature Note articles to Dave Barrow and she has 7 more in the hopper. Nonetheless, Lori requests more articles.

9. Web site: Dave is working to change the main page on a regular basis to keep the site fresh.

10. New Business: Dave mentioned that the Streamlink Program was so popular that they had to turn some volunteers away. So far they have planted 12,000 trees. Dave also mentioned that he will be attending a State Tree Farm Committee meeting this week.
